A Polícia Federal encaminhou ao sistema penitenciário do Rio Grande do Sul o assaltante de bancos Vanderlei Lopes, condenado a 45 anos de prisão pela Justiça Estadual. O preso estava foragido desde 2016 e desembarcou na manhã de hoje (21/08) no Aeroporto Salgado Filho, em avião da Polícia Federal.
O processo de extradição envolveu a Representação Regional da Interpol no Rio Grande do Sul e em Foz do Iguaçu, e as autoridades argentinas. O procedimento foi concluído na quarta-feira (19/08), com a entrega do preso à Polícia Federal, na Ponte Tancredo Neves, em Foz do Iguaçu (PR). O nome de Vanderlei Lopes estava incluído na lista de procurados internacionais “Difusão Vermelha”, da Interpol.
Vanderlei Lopes foi capturado na cidade de El Soberbio, na Argentina, em novembro de 2017. No momento da prisão, Vanderlei, o irmão e uma mulher estavam na posse de um fuzil, um rifle, uma pistola, explosivos, munições, coletes balísticos. Na ação também foram apreendidos três caminhões e três camionetes, e o criminoso permaneceu preso na Argentina desde então. Em julho de 2018, houve uma tentativa de resgate de Vanderlei Lopes, que foi frustrada pelos agentes penitenciários argentinos.
O extraditado e seus comparsas seriam responsáveis por ataques a bancos em cidades do interior do Rio Grande do Sul com utilização de armamento pesado, explosivos utilização de reféns como escudos humanos.
